Frequently Asked Questions: When will the dogs be here next? Our Therapy Dog Lounge is currently OPEN every day, every period! Why do we need a Therapy Dog Lounge in a high school? We have created the Therapy Dog Program for stress relief for students and staff at Mountain Vista High School. Check out our researched benefits on the "Benefits" page. How will it work? Counselors will be able to make referrals for any Vista students who show signs of serious stress. Students can go to the Therapy Dog Lounge with this pass for 10 minutes or longer depending on the Counselor's referral. We have trained student handlers supervising the lounge nearly every period of the day (not 5th or 6th). If there is no one there, the dog may be taking a break in Ms. Schofield's office in the Counseling Department. You may request a pass and your counselors will determine if/when to send you. Step 1: Have a legal waiver signed by a parent or guardian before your first visit. The legal waiver can be found posted above. Step 2: Request an official pass from your COUNSELOR. You will need to make an appointment to see him/her. Step 3: Come to L423 with an official pass to de-stress and love on the pups! Step 4: Return with less stress!
Where is the Therapy Dog Lounge? The Therapy Dog Lounge is in room L423. Can I just drop in without a pass? You will need a pass to visit the Therapy Dog Lounge once it is up and running and will need to sign the legal waiver posted above before your first visit. Who owns the dogs? Reiley and Cannon are Ms. Schofield's (Counselor) personal pets. Bella is Mr. Larson's personal pet. Breinna is Ms. Ramsey's personal pet. Are the dogs trained and insured? The dogs are trained as therapy dogs by Prestige K9 and are fully approved, vaccinated, insured and approved by the school and DCSD Risk Management. Can I be a Student Handler next semester? See Mrs. Wheeler (U317) or Ms. Schofield (Counseling) for an application and we'll see!
